TIRDO is to be a center of excellence in the region which provides technological support to create competitive industries.
 

Mission

Is to undertake applied research which leads to industrial utilization of local materials and support industry in technological transfer and technical services so as to become locally and internationally competitive in industrial production.
 
 
 
 
Through collaboration with international agencies and from self income generation, TIRDO has facilities which are in good physical condition, acquired more equipment and instruments which are effectively used to develop technologies and provide technical services.

Food and Biotechnology 

Available equipment and instruments for laboratory investigations include microscopes, autoclaves, furnaces, refractometer, laminar flow, distilling unit, incubators, dispensers, and micropipettes.  The available facilities enables, TIRDO to carry out food and microbiology analyses covering water, meat, fish, vegetables and fruits.

Agrotechnology and Industrial Chemistry 

   

The division has state of art equipment and instruments to carry out inorganic and organic chemical analysis of various substances.  The items available include High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS), De-ionizer, and Nitrogen Determination unit, Infrared Spectrometers, UV/VIS Spectrophotometer and Kjeldahl Digestion Assembly.
The available facilities enables TIRDO to carry out chemical tests of liquid and solid samples such as petroleum products, animal feeds, industrial effluents and heavy metals..

Energy and Environment 

 

Most of instruments used by the division are portable kits to carry out energy analysis and environmental studies.  The instruments include flue gas analyzer, sound meter, pollution detector kits for gases, electrical power quality analyzer, temperature kits, Dust sampler, lux meter (light intensity) and conducting & TDS meter.

Materials Science and Technology 

 

The division has sufficient equipment to carry out basic services and such equipment include universal testing machine, hardness tester, impact tester, metallurgical microscopes, gamma projectors, X-ray machines, ultrasonic testing machine for metals and non metallic materials, mobile Non Destructive Testing (NDT) laboratory and radiation meters.

Information Technology, Instrumentation and Computers 

  The Information Technology unit at TIRDO has over 30 personal computers and peripherals. Twenty-one are connected to the World Wide Web and form a local area network. Researchers and other staff are allowed to use the computers at any time and Management assists by acquiring technical software, training etc. The computers are used for information searching, word processing, accounting, data analysis and data banking.

Machine Shop 

Machine shop has TIG, MIG/MAG welding machines, gas welding equipment, bending and rolling machines, shearing machine, pillar and bench drill, milling machine, surface and cylindrical grinders, tool and cutter machine.  The workshop is capable of welding non ferrous materials like aluminum, cast iron and stainless steel.  Further, the available surface and cylindrical grinders make TIRDO workshop among the few machine shops which can produce quality products.

The Wood Workshop 

The wood workshop is equipped with machines such as crosscut machine, thickness planner, saw bench, mortiser, tenoner, vertical spindle moulder, sander and bandsaw which are used for training on manufacturing quality wood products like computer desk, cabinets, ceiling repair and installation, countertop, window and screen fabrication and assembly of manufactured furniture.
