TIRDO runs several projects; some are donor funded and others are funded by the Government through the R&D funds under COSTECH and yet some are run through the development fund from the Government. Improve Product Quality and Establish Quality Certification System for Competitive Market Access The project is funded under R&D funds from COSTECH The aim of accreditation is to support the competitiveness of Tanzania entreprises by enabling exporters to have their products tested domestically, rather than relying entirely on tests in recipient countries, and by enabling import competing enterprises to improve their competitiveness vi-s-vi foreign companies. The Objective of the project is to improve the quality of products and establish quaality certifying system in areas of food, industrial chemistry, industrial pollution, and engineering materials and product testing using non destructive testing techniques. Studying and recommending the best Management Information System in EAC region for adaptation in Tanzania The project is funded by SCF (Small and Medium Entreprises Competitive Facility) and is to be carried out in the whole of EAC region by studying the Management Information Systems that are used in these different Countries and then recommending the best practices that Tanzanian food SMEs can use to improve the way they manage different information concerning their business.
Utilization of ICT for Enhanced Business Export Support for Food SMEs The project is being financed by Small Competitive Facility (SCF). The project supports food processing SMEs to apply ICT to enhance their businesses specifically in communications and marketing of their products. It is being carried out in Tanga, Dar es Salaam, Coastal, Mtwara and Lindi regions. The Objective of the project; Increased export of SMEs products and services through utilizations of ICT To accredit environment, chemistry, materials and food & microbiology laboratories by 2013 This project is funded under the development funds from the Government. Objective of the project; Increase local and export market share for Tanzanian produce through compliance to competitive international standards, as well as increased safety and reliability of engineering structures and products The project involves the following stages
Improvement and the use of appropriate drying technologies using tunnel solar dryer to ensure high quality cassava products in rural areas A market survey that was carried out by IITA in 2004, TFNC 2006 and TIRDO 2006 have shown that there is a big demand of high quality cassava flour in various industries here in Tanzania. Therefore through appropriate processing technologies such as effeiciency drying will enhance the potentials of cassava as a means of sustaining food security, improving nutrition and creating wealth addressing both the MKUKUTA and MDG goals. The Objective of the project is to improve the welfare of cassava producers through transfer of appropriate processing technology to SMEs
